Zombie Mode at the Padel Court

The alarm blared at 6 AM. Again. Maya dragged herself out of bed, eyes half-closed, practically a zombie from three days of midweek exams. Her mom had already signed her up for that stupid padel clinic with the Williams twins – the perfect ones who probably didn't need sleep to function.

"You'll thank me later," her mom had said. "It's very in right now."

Whatever that meant.

The padel court was basically tennis, but with walls and somehow more chaotic. Maya stood there holding her racquet, wearing a skirt that felt too short and sneakers that were definitely not cool enough. The Williams twins, Brianna and Chloe, were already warming up, their matching outfits and flawless ponytails making Maya's messy bun feel inadequate.

"You play baseball?" Chloe asked, pointing at Maya's old infield glove sticking out of her bag.

Maya's face burned. "Uh, yeah. Third base."

The twins exchanged a look. "That's... interesting."

Translation: weird. Not feminine enough. Not twin-enough.

But then something clicked. Maya wasn't some zombie going through the motions anymore. She adjusted her grip on the padel racquet like it was a baseball bat, planted her feet like she was waiting for a fastball, and when the ball came at her, she didn't just hit it – she crushed it against the back wall with a satisfying THWACK.

Both twins stared.

"Whoa," Brianna said. "Where'd you learn to hit like that?"

Maya shrugged, feeling something shift inside her – not zombie exhaustion, but actual pride. "Baseball," she said, and for the first time all week, she didn't feel like apologizing for it.

By the end of the session, the Williams twins weren't just the perfect ones anymore. They were just two girls who wanted to know how to hit like a baseball player. And Maya wasn't a zombie anymore. She was just... herself. Finally.
