Zoe and the Lightning Friend
Zoe sat by the window, watching her dad's old iPhone glow with colorful games. Outside, rain tapped against the glass like tiny fingers wanting to come in and play.
Suddenly, FLASH! Lightning crackled across the sky, painting everything purple and blue. BOOM!
The iPhone flickered and buzzed. A strange green light bubbled from its screen, spilling onto the carpet like glowing soup. Zoe gasped as the light grew taller and taller, forming a bumpy shape with big, friendly eyes.
"Hello!" said the creature. Its voice sounded like popcorn popping. "I'm Zom, and I'm your new friend!"
Zoe blinked. "Are you... a zombie?"
Zom wiggled its bumpy head. "I'm a ZOMBIE OF MAGIC! The lightning brought me to life from your phone!"
Zoe wasn't scared. Zom looked silly and fun, like a walking potato with a big smile. "Want to see my room?"
Zom clapped its hands. "Yes yes yes!"
Together they built a pillow fort and played games until—FLASH! Another lightning bolt struck nearby. The lights went out. Everything was dark and quiet.
Zoe's little brother Leo started crying from his room. "I'm scared of the dark!"
Zom's green glow brightened. "We can help!" The magical zombie wiggled its fingers, and tiny lightning stars floated from its hands, lighting up the whole hallway like fireflies.
Leo stopped crying when he saw the magical lights. "Wow!" he whispered.
Zoe, Zom, and Leo spent the rest of the storm telling stories and making shadow puppets on the wall. When the rain finally stopped, Zom grew sleepy.
"I have to go back into the iPhone now," Zom said, hugging Zoe with its bumpy arms. "But I'll always be your friend when you need me. Just remember: being brave doesn't mean you're not scared. It means you're scared but you keep going anyway—especially with friends by your side!"
Zom dissolved into sparkles and flew back into the phone. The next morning, Zoe showed her parents the iPhone. It looked just like before, but when she turned it on, there was one new app: a little green zombie icon.
And sometimes, when storms came, Zoe would tap it, and her magical friend would appear to make the dark bright and the scary things fun.
