Whiskers and the Magic Cable
Lily had the curliest, wildest hair in all of Willowbrook. Every morning, her mother tried to tame it with ribbons and braids, but Lily's hair had a mind of its own—springing out like golden sunshine, always catching the light.
One rainy afternoon, while her friends were playing padel in the gymnasium, Lily discovered something magical behind her grandmother's attic. A thick, golden cable stretched from an old wooden box, glowing faintly with silver light. When she touched it, the cable hummed like a sleeping cat purring.
"Hello there," whispered a voice.
Lily jumped! From behind the cable box emerged Midnight—a sleek black cat with eyes like emerald stars. His whiskers twitched mysteriously.
"That's the Dream Cable," Midnight explained. "It connects to the Swimming Galaxy, where children's dreams go to splash and play."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "Can we go there?"
Midnight winked. "Hold the cable and close your eyes."
Suddenly, Lily felt lighter than air. She wasn't just holding the cable—the cable was holding HER! WHOOSH! They were swimming through starlight, past clouds made of cotton candy, across rivers of rainbow water.
In the Swimming Galaxy, Lily saw wonders beyond imagination—moon-jellies that hummed lullabies, starfish that told jokes, and comets that played tag. But the most beautiful sight was the Dream Pool, where children's wishes bubbled like champagne.
"Make a wish," Midnight purred.
Lily thought hard. She didn't wish for straight hair or fancy toys. She wished that every child could have a magical friend like Midnight.
The Dream Pool sparkled brighter than ever, sending sparkles shooting across the universe. When Lily opened her eyes, she was back in the attic, her curly hair even wilder than before—now dotted with tiny, twinkling stars.
"Did that really happen?" she whispered.
Midnight curled up on her lap, purring. "Some magic is real, Lily. And some magic—you carry inside you, always."
From that day on, whenever Lily looked in the mirror, she didn't see messy hair. She saw starlight. And somewhere, in the Swimming Galaxy, other children were finding their own magic cables, their own Midnight cats, and their own adventures among the stars.
