Where Baseballs Take Flight
Barnaby loved baseball more than anything. Every evening, he'd practice swinging his favorite wooden bat in the backyard, dreaming of hitting home runs that would touch the clouds.
One twilight, just as the stars began to twinkle, Barnaby hit his most perfect shot ever. The ball soared higher and higher, until it disappeared beyond the old oak tree at the edge of the yard.
"Oh no!" Barnaby cried. He grabbed his flashlight and followed where the ball had gone.
Beyond the oak tree, he discovered something magical—a shimmering silver cable stretching across the sky, glowing with moonlight. And there, perched on the cable, was a sleek orange fox.
"You hit quite a ball," the fox said with a grin. "I'm Finnegan. Welcome to Where Baseballs Take Flight."
Barnaby gasped. "You can talk?"
"Around here, lots of things can talk," Finnegan said. "Like him."
A gentle black cat emerged from behind a bush, wearing a tiny baseball cap. "I'm Mittens! I used to be a regular cat, but one day I caught a magic ball, and now I help all the baseballs find their way home."
Just then, the ground rumbled. A massive but friendly bull with kind brown eyes stepped into the clearing. Around his neck hung a bucket of baseballs.
"This is Buster," Finnegan said. "He's our guardian. Every lost baseball ends up here, and Buster keeps them safe until children come to claim them."
Buster lowered his head so Barnaby could reach into the bucket. There it was—Barnaby's favorite ball!
"Thank you!" Barnaby hugged the bull's soft nose. "But how do I get home?"
"Hold tight to my tail," Mittens said, "and trust the magic."
Barnaby grabbed the cat's tail as she leaped onto the glowing cable. They slid across it like it was the world's longest slide, landing gently back in Barnaby's yard.
"Visit us anytime!" Finnegan called from above. "Just hit the ball with all your heart!"
That night, Barnaby fell asleep smiling. Some magic, he learned, is real—you just have to believe with your whole heart, and wonderful friends will help you find your way home.
