When the Bull Picked Up the Bat

Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his glove and run to the dusty field behind his house. But there was one problem—Leo had no one to play with. His old friend Mia had moved away, and the new kids in town were too busy staring at their iphone screens to notice a dusty old baseball field.

One golden afternoon, as Leo practiced his pitching against the wooden backstop, he heard a strange snort. He turned to see a massive bull standing at the edge of the field. Its fur was the color of chocolate, and its eyes sparkled like morning dew.

"Hello there," Leo whispered, not wanting to startle the creature.

The bull took a step forward, then another. To Leo's amazement, the bull nudged a baseball with its nose and sent it rolling perfectly toward Leo's feet. Then it did something impossible—it picked up Leo's favorite bat with its mouth and trotted to home plate.

Leo's eyes widened. "Do you want to play?"

The bull nodded.

That afternoon, Leo and the bull—who he named Buster—played the most magical game of baseball ever. Buster was surprisingly good at batting, and Leo's pitches seemed to fly straighter than ever before. The air around them shimmered with tiny sparks of light, and every time Buster hit the ball, it sailed over the trees with a rainbow trail.

"You're the best friend ever," Leo told Buster as the sun began to set.

Bester nudged Leo's shoulder gently, and Leo understood—sometimes the best friends aren't the ones you expect, and magic can be found in the most unlikely places.

The next day, other kids came to the field. They weren't looking at their phones anymore—they wanted to meet the baseball-playing bull. Soon, the field was filled with laughter and the crack of bats. Buster had given Leo something better than a perfect game—he'd given him a community.

Leo learned that friendship comes in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes all it takes to bring magic into the world is a little imagination and an open heart.
