When Oranges Float Upward

Luna lived in a house painted the color of sunshine, right beside an orange grove that hummed with magic. Every evening, she'd watch the oranges glow as the sun set, wondering if they were actually tiny captured moons.

One Tuesday, something impossible happened. Luna was tossing her baseball against the backyard wall when it didn't come back down. Instead, it floated upward, higher and higher, until it bobbed beside the lowest orange branch.

"That's strange," she whispered.

"Not strange," said a voice from above. "Just gravity taking a vacation."

Luna looked up. A boy with silver hair was sitting in the orange tree, holding something that looked like a padel racquet, but shimmered like a rainbow.

"I'm Orion," he said, swinging down. "And that baseball of yours has excellent taste. It wants to play."

Orion tossed her the magical padel. Luna caught it, and warmth rushed through her fingers.

"The rule is simple," Orion explained. "Hit the baseball, but you must hit it with joy. If you hit with anger or wanting to win, it falls. If you hit with wonder, it flies."

Luna swung at the floating baseball. *THWACK!* It sailed upward, trailing sparkles like a tiny comet.

"Again!" she laughed.

They played until the stars came out, the baseball bouncing between them like a happy heartbeat. Luna's favorite orange ripened until it glowed golden-orange, watching their game.

"You're a natural," Orion said as they sat beneath the tree, exhausted and happy. "Most grown-ups hit with their egos. You hit with your heart."

"Will the baseball come down tomorrow?" Luna asked.

"Maybe," Orion winked. "Or maybe it'll float back to see if you want to play again. The best games are the ones that choose you."

That night, Luna dreamed of oranges that knew her name and baseballs that could fly. She learned that magic isn't about being special—it's about approaching everything, even a simple game, with wonder in your heart.

And sometimes, the most wonderful adventures find you when you least expect them—floating just beyond reach, waiting for you to swing with joy.
