When Lightning Struck the Pool

Maya couldn't sleep. Thunder rumbled outside her window, and flashes of lightning lit up her room like a camera's flash. She crept downstairs to the backyard, where the family pool glowed strangely in the storm.

As Maya watched, a bolt of lightning struck the water! But instead of sizzling and disappearing, the lightning danced across the surface, forming swirling golden patterns. The water began to rise—not spilling over, but rising UP like stairs of light.

Curious and brave, Maya stepped onto the glowing water. Each step felt firm beneath her bare feet.

Suddenly, a boy her age appeared beside her, wearing clothes from ancient Egypt. "I'm Kemet," he said with a warm smile. "The lightning opens the door between worlds."

Maya and Kemet became instant friends as the water-stairs lifted them higher. At the top, Maya gasped. A magnificent pyramid floated in the stormy sky, its stone blocks glowing with the same golden light as the pool stairs.

"The Great Pyramid of Dreams," Kemet explained. "It only appears when lightning wakes it up."

But the pyramid was crumbling! "The Dream Keeper is trapped inside," Kemet said worriedly. "We need to help her."

Hand in hand, Maya and Kemet went running up the pyramid's swirling light-path. Maya's heart pounded with excitement and fear. Inside, they found an old woman surrounded by fading dreams—lost balloons, forgotten toys, half-remembered adventures.

"The storm's lightning powers the dreams," she whispered. "But I'm too weak to catch it anymore."

Maya had an idea. "Kemet, help me make a lightning catcher!"

Using pieces of broken dream-crystals and Maya's knowledge from science class, they built a lightning rod. When the next bolt flashed, Maya climbed to the pyramid's peak and held up their invention.

ZAP! The lightning filled their crystal, and it blazed like a miniature sun. The Dream Keeper's strength returned. The pyramid glowed brighter, and hundreds of dreams swirled out into the world.

"Thank you," Kemet hugged Maya. "You're brave and kind."

As the storm faded, the water-stairs lowered Maya back to her pool. The pyramid, Kemet, and the magic disappeared in the mist.

But that wasn't the end. Maya discovered she could now see dreams everywhere—fireflies that carried wishes, puddles that showed distant adventures, and lightning that never just struck randomly. Each storm was someone's dream arriving.

She learned that courage and friendship can transform scary moments into magical adventures. And sometimes, the most wonderful things appear when you're brave enough to step into the unknown.

The next morning, Maya found a small golden pyramid charm on her nightstand—a reminder that magic is real, especially when shared with a friend.
