When Lightning Played Baseball

Emma and Jake loved summer evenings more than anything. They spent every afternoon **running** through the neighborhood, their baseball gloves bouncing against their hips. Today was special – their homemade baseball diamond behind the old oak tree was finally ready for the biggest game of the year.

"Just one more pitch!" Emma called out, swinging her bat with all her might. The ball sailed high, high, high – and then something magical happened. A bolt of **lightning** flashed across the sky, even though it wasn't raining. The lightning didn't crash down like usual. Instead, it danced around the baseball, spinning it like a glowing top.

Jake's eyes widened. "Did you see that?"

The lightning sparkled brighter, then – WHOOSH! – it struck the ground right where their baseball had landed. But instead of burning the grass, it created something wonderful. A shimmering blue **pool** appeared, filled with water that sparkled like diamonds.

"It's magic!" Emma whispered, leaning over the edge.

Suddenly, the baseball floated to the surface. But it wasn't just a baseball anymore. It had grown tiny little wings and was fluttering like a butterfly. The ball zipped around the pool, leaving trails of rainbow light in the water.

"Catch it!" Jake laughed, and they both spent the afternoon playing with their magical new friend. The lightning-ball taught them that the best games aren't about winning – they're about wonder and friendship.

As the sun set, the pool slowly faded away, leaving only their ordinary baseball behind. But Emma and Jake knew something special had happened.

"Same time tomorrow?" Emma asked, holding up her glove.

"Definitely," Jake grinned. "But next time, I'm bringing my swimming suit!"

They walked home, hand in hand, already imagining what other magical games summer might bring.
