When Lightning Painted the Sky
Tiny was the smallest cat in the forest, with fur as soft as dandelion fluff. But Tiny had a big problem—she was absolutely terrified of storms. Every time thunder rumbled, she would hide under the porch and tremble.
One afternoon, dark clouds gathered like woolly blankets. The wind howled through the trees. Tiny crouched under a bush, squeezing her eyes shut. Suddenly, a brilliant flash of lightning lit up the whole forest—CRACK!
"It's just the sky painting with light!" a deep voice rumbled gently.
Tiny opened one eye to see a huge bear sitting calmly nearby. He wasn't scared at all. He was watching the storm like it was the most interesting show in the world.
"Watch this," said the bear. Another bolt of lightning streaked across the sky, bright and beautiful. "See? It's like someone's drawing with glowing chalk. Nothing to be afraid of."
"But what if it hits us?" Tiny squeaked.
Just then, a clever fox trotted out from behind a tree. She was carrying something bright and round in her mouth—an orange as glowing as the lightning itself.
"Lightning strikes the tallest things," the fox explained, dropping the orange between them. "That's why you stay away from tall trees when you're small. But you know what else?" She nudged the orange toward Tiny. "The storm waters make the sweetest fruit grow. This is my thank-you gift to the sky."
The bear smiled. "Would you like to share with us, little friend?"
Tiny sniffed the orange. It smelled like sunshine and rain together. As the three of them sat there—cat, fox, and bear—the storm danced above them, painting the sky in flashes of purple and silver. Tiny wasn't scared anymore. She had friends who showed her that even scary things can be beautiful when you understand them.
From that day on, whenever storms came, Tiny wasn't afraid. She would run to find her friends, and together they would watch the sky's light show, sometimes sharing an orange, always sharing the wonder.
And Tiny learned that bravery isn't about not being scared. It's about finding friends who help you see the magic in things that frighten you.
