When Lightning Dropped Papayas
Lily loved summer storms. She'd press her nose against the window, watching **lightning** crackle across the sky like nature's fireworks. But tonight's storm was different.
A single bolt of purple lightning struck her backyard garden with a soft *pop*. When Lily rushed outside, she found something miraculous: a glowing **papaya** where the lightning had hit.
The papaya shimmered like a captured star. As Lily reached for it, the fruit rolled away, bouncing toward the garden gate.
"Wait!" Lily called, chasing it into her backyard where her dad's **padel** court sat.
The papaya stopped at the net. Suddenly, the fruit split open, revealing not seeds but tiny, glowing beings who immediately began dividing into teams.
"We need a fourth player!" a tiny spark-person squeaked. "Will you join our Sky Padel Championship?"
Lily's eyes widened. "Me? But I've never played—"
"In our game, the ball is made of starlight!" the spark said, tossing her a racquet made from a moonbeam.
They played the most magical game ever. When Lily hit the starlight ball, it created trails of rainbow colors. Each point scored made the papaya glow brighter.
"You're a natural!" her opponents cheered. "Now for your prize!"
The papaya transformed into a swirling portal of purple light.
"Come **swimming** through the stars!" the sparks invited.
Lily stepped through—and found herself floating in a galaxy of twinkling lights. She swam past comets and waved at distant planets. Each stroke left behind sparkles that became wishes for children everywhere.
When she returned home, the papaya sat on her nightstand, now an ordinary fruit. But Lily knew its secret: even ordinary things hold extraordinary magic for those brave enough to believe.
Every storm since, Lily watches the lightning, wondering what other surprises the sky might drop into her garden.
