When Lightning Dropped a Vitamin
Max loved running more than anything in the world. Every morning, he'd lace up his sneakers and race the wind through Meadowbrook Forest, his feet pounding against the earth in a rhythm that felt like music. But no matter how fast he ran, he could never catch up to the older kids in the village races.
One afternoon, as Max sat on a mossy log, feeling discouraged, a peculiar storm rolled in. The sky turned purple, and lightning danced across the clouds like golden ribbons. Suddenly, something small and glowing fell from the sky, landing right beside Max's sneaker.
It was a tiny, shimmering tablet that hummed with energy. "A lightning vitamin!" whispered a voice from above. Max looked up to see a silver fox perched on a branch, her fur sparkling with starlight. "The storm drops these once every hundred years. They give whoever eats them the power to run as fast as lightning itself."
Max's heart pounded. This was his chance! He could finally win the village race! But as he reached for the glowing tablet, he noticed something—a baby bird had fallen from its nest during the storm and was struggling in the mud below.
The fox watched him closely. "You could take the vitamin now and run like lightning forever. Or you could help that little bird, but the storm will wash the vitamin away."
Max looked at the glowing tablet, then at the shivering bird. Without hesitating, he scooped up the bird and carefully climbed the tree to return it to its nest. By the time he climbed down, the storm had passed, and the lightning vitamin had dissolved into the earth, making a patch of golden flowers bloom.
"I made my choice," Max said bravely, though his eyes were sad.
The fox smiled. "And that's why you're faster than lightning already. True speed isn't about how quickly your feet move—it's about how quickly your heart chooses to help others."
That weekend, Max won the village race—not because he was the fastest, but because he stopped to help another runner who had fallen, and the other kids slowed down too, so everyone crossed the finish line together. Max learned that day that the real magic wasn't in a vitamin dropped from the sky, but in the heart that knows when to pause, even when running toward a dream.
