When Lightning Danced on Water
Lily sat by the window watching the storm. Raindrops raced down the glass like tiny rivers. In her lap, her iPhone glowed with a special app her grandmother had sent – one that supposedly could capture magic moments.
"Grandma said magic happens when you least expect it," Lily whispered.
Outside, a brilliant flash of lightning illuminated the backyard. It was the most beautiful lightning Lily had ever seen – purple and gold, shimmering like a fallen star.
SNAP! She pressed her iPhone's camera button just as the lightning struck the old birdbath. For a split second, the water in the birdbath glowed the same purple-gold color.
Lily gasped. The photo on her iPhone showed something impossible – a tiny water sprite, no bigger than her thumb, dancing in the birdbath! The sprite was made entirely of water droplets, yet she sparkled with that same purple-gold light.
The next morning, Lily rushed to the birdbath. It was empty – no sprite, no magic water. But when she looked at her iPhone, the photo was still there. The little water sprite winked at her from the screen!
"You're real," Lily breathed.
That afternoon, the town announced a drought. No rain for weeks. The park would lose all its flowers. Lily's heart sank.
She looked at her iPhone. The photo of the water sprite seemed to shimmer.
"Please," Lily whispered to the phone. "Help us."
A single drop of water slid down the screen. Then another. Lily touched the droplets – they felt real! She ran to the birdbath and let the magical water drops fall in.
WHOOSH! The birdbath overflowed with sparkling purple-gold water. As it touched the ground, flowers bloomed instantly. The water sprite appeared, dancing joyfully.
"Thank you, Lily!" the sprite's voice sounded like rain on a tin roof. "Your phone's magic lightning woke me from a hundred-year sleep! Now I can bring water to all the thirsty places."
And so, whenever her town needed rain, Lily would take a photo of the birdbath with her special iPhone. The water sprite would dance, lightning would flash, and water would flow like magic.
Some things are more powerful than they seem – even a small phone, a single drop of water, and one bolt of lightning can work wonders together.
