When Lightning Built a Pyramid
Mia hated storms. Every time thunder rumbled, she hid under her quilt with her stuffed rabbit, Barnaby. But tonight, the storm was different.
CRACK! A bolt of lightning flashed so bright it turned her bedroom silver-blue. Mia peeked out from her blanket. Through her window, she saw something impossible—the lightning had twisted and turned in the sky, forming a glowing pyramid made entirely of light!
The pyramid pulsed like a heartbeat. Sparkles drifted down from it like glittery rain.
"Hello?" a tiny voice squeaked.
Mia's eyes widened. A spark the size of a firefly hovered near her window. It zipped and zoomed leaving little trails of light, like a tiny comet.
"I'm Zapp!" the spark said cheerfully. "I'm sorry if I scared you. Sometimes I get excited and... ZAP! Too much energy!"
"You're made of lightning?" Mia whispered, awe replacing her fear.
"Uh-huh! I live in the sky pyramid. It's where all the lonely lightning sparks go to make friends!" Zapp did a happy flip. "Want to see?"
Mia nodded slowly. Zapp flew closer, and suddenly, Mia wasn't in her room anymore. She was floating beside the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen—a pyramid of shimmering light, with rainbows arching between its edges. Hundreds of tiny sparks like Zapp danced around it, playing tag and weaving patterns.
"We're not scary," Zapp said softly. "We're just lonely sometimes. We want to make friends, but everyone hides from us."
Mia thought about Barnaby under her quilt. "I was scared too," she admitted. "But now I think you're beautiful."
Zapp beamed brighter. "Will you be our sky-friend? Come visit during storms? We promise to do extra sparkle shows just for you!"
"Yes!" Mia hugged Zapp gently. "Forever and always."
That night, Mia fell asleep smiling. The storm still rumbled outside, but now she knew the truth—every lightning flash was a friend saying hello, every thunderclap was applause from the sky pyramid, and the scariest things can hide the most wonderful surprises, if you're brave enough to look.
