The Zombie with Rainbow Hair
Lily was running through the enchanted forest, her bare feet padding softly on the mossy ground. The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of purple and gold. She was playing hide-and-seek with the fireflies when she heard a strange sound.
"Groan... sigh..." The noise came from behind an ancient oak tree.
Lily peeked around the trunk and gasped. There sat a zombie! But this wasn't like the scary ones in stories. This zombie had the most magnificent, colorful hair she had ever seen – flowing locks in every shade of the rainbow, shimmering like candy ribbons in the twilight.
The zombie was trying to tie her hair but her green fingers were clumsy. Tears rolled down her pale cheeks.
"I can't do it," the zombie sobbed. "Tomorrow is the Moon Festival and everyone will laugh at me."
Lily stepped forward. "I can help!"
The zombie jumped. "You're not afraid?"
"No," Lily smiled. "You have beautiful hair. I'm Lily."
"I'm Zara," the zombie whispered shyly.
Lily sat beside Zara and carefully braided her rainbow hair into a lovely crown. "You know," she said, "being different is what makes you special."
Zara's eyes lit up. "Really?"
"Really!" Lily said. "My favorite thing about myself is that I can run faster than anyone. What's your favorite thing about you?"
Zara thought for a moment. "I can make flowers bloom just by touching them."
Lily clapped with delight. "That's amazing! Show me!"
Zara touched a patch of dirt, and instantly, glowing blue flowers sprang up everywhere.
At the Moon Festival that night, Zara was the star. Her rainbow hair braided beautifully and her magical flowers lit up the entire meadow. No one laughed. Everyone cheered.
Lily learned that day that true friends see past appearances, and that the things that make us different are often the things that make us wonderful. And Zara learned that sometimes, all you need is one friend who believes in you to feel brave enough to shine.
