The Zombie Who Wasn't Scary At All
Lily pushed through the tall grass, her golden retriever Barnaby bounding ahead. They were on a mission to find the legendary Rainbow Stream, where the water sparkled in every color imaginable.
Behind a giant oak tree, they found the most enormous bear Lily had ever seen. But this bear looked sad. His shaggy brown hair covered his eyes like a messy curtain.
"What's wrong, Mr. Bear?" Lily asked bravely.
The bear sighed. "Everyone runs away from me because they think I'm scary. I just want to see the magical water too."
Lily smiled. "We're going there together! Come with us!"
As they walked, the bear's name was Bruno, and he told wonderful stories. Soon they reached the Rainbow Stream. The water did sparkle—red like rubies, blue like butterflies, green like emerald leaves.
But then something groaned from behind a willow tree. A strange figure stumbled toward them, arms stretched out, making odd moaning sounds.
"It's a zombie!" Bruno gasped, covering his eyes with his big paws.
Barnaby wagged his tail and trotted right up to the figure. The "zombie" turned out to be a boy named Timmy, covered in green mud and practicing for a school play.
"I'm trying to be a convincing zombie," Timmy explained, wiping mud from his face. "But I keep tripping over my own feet!"
Lily, Bruno, and Barnaby all laughed. Bruno offered Timmy some of the magical water to wash his face. When Timmy looked in the water's reflection, his eyes went wide.
"The water shows you how others really see you," Lily whispered. And there in the colorful reflection, Timmy didn't see a muddy boy trying to be scary. He saw a friend with the kindest smile.
Bruno looked too. The bear with the wild hair saw not a monster, but a gentle giant with a heart full of stories.
"You know," Bruno said, letting his messy hair blow in the breeze, "I think I like my wild hair. It makes me look like a storyteller."
"And I think I'd rather be Timmy the Kind Friend than Timmy the Zombie Actor," Timmy said, grinning.
From that day on, the four friends returned often to the Rainbow Stream. They learned that the scariest things aren't always what they seem, and the best magic of all is the magic of friendship—whether you have wild hair, four legs, shaggy fur, or just a kind heart.
