The Zombie Who Wanted to Play

Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house, with her golden dog Sunny bouncing beside her. The wind would mess up her brown hair, but she didn't care one bit. Nothing could ruin her perfect afternoons.

One day, while playing hide-and-seek with Sunny, Lily spotted something strange near the old oak tree. It looked like a zombie from her storybooks—green skin, tattered clothes, and arms that wobbled like jelly. Lily's heart beat fast, but Sunny trotted right up to the creature and wagged his tail.

"Hello there!" the zombie said in a squeaky voice. "I'm Zim. Would you like to play?"

Lily stepped closer, her hair falling into her eyes. "You're... you're a zombie. Aren't zombies supposed to be scary?"

Zim shook his head sadly. "That's just what people think. I love flowers and fuzzy animals. I've been watching you play for weeks, but I was too shy to say hello."

Lily smiled. "Well, you should have said something sooner! Want to play tag?"

For hours, the three new friends ran through the meadow—Lily, Sunny, and Zim. Zim was surprisingly fast, even though he sometimes tripped over his own feet. When Lily's hair got messy from running, Zim offered her a pretty purple flower to put in it.

As the sun began to set, Zim sighed. "I should go home now. The other zombies might worry."

"Will you come back tomorrow?" Lily asked.

Zim beamed. "Every day! And maybe I'll bring my friends. They're nice too, once you get to know them."

That night, Lily learned something important: sometimes, the things that seem scary at first are just lonely souls waiting for a friend. And sometimes, the best adventures start when you're brave enough to say hello.

The next day, Lily was running through the meadow again, but this time she wasn't just playing with Sunny. She was waiting for her new friend Zim, and she couldn't wait to meet all the other zombies who just wanted to play.
