The Zombie Who Sparkled
Lily discovered something strange behind the old oak tree. A little green creature sat slumped against the bark, its skin patchy like moss, its eyes half-closed. It looked like a tiny zombie from her storybooks.
"Are you okay?" Lily whispered.
The creature moaned softly. Lily wasn't scared. She could see something glimmering beneath the patchy green skin—tiny sparkles, like trapped stars.
"I'm Zim," the creature said. "I haven't had any magic water in seven sunrings. Without it, I turn all zombie-ish."
Lily's eyes widened. Her grandmother had told her about the Crystal Spring deep in the forest. The water there was special—filled with every good vitamin in the world.
"I'll help you!" Lily said.
She grabbed her favorite watering can from home and raced into the forest. The Crystal Spring sparkled with rainbow light. She filled the can, watching as tiny bubbles floated up—each bubble was pure liquid sunshine, packed with enough vitamin to make anything feel alive again.
When she returned, Zim was even more droopy. His sparkles were fading.
"Drink this!" Lily poured the magical water over Zim's head.
Something amazing happened. Zim's patchy skin smoothed out like silk. His eyes opened wide—golden and bright. Tiny wings unfurled from his back, shimmering with every color imaginable. He wasn't a zombie at all. He was a forest guardian!
"Thank you, friend," Zim said. His voice sounded like wind chimes. "You saw past my zombie outside. You saw the sparkles inside."
Lily learned something that day: Sometimes things look scary or strange on the outside, but if you look with your heart, you'll find something magical. And the best vitamin in the world? Kindness. It makes everything sparkle.
