The Zombie Who Saved the Baseball Game

Lily loved summer days, especially when she was running through the sprinkler in her backyard. But today was special—her team had the big baseball championship game! She practiced her swing every afternoon, dreaming of hitting the winning home run.

That morning, Lily's mom handed her a bright orange gummy vitamin. "This will give you extra energy for the game!" her mom promised. Lily swallowed it with a glass of cool water and grabbed her baseball glove.

At the field, something strange shuffled toward the dugout. It was green and bumpy, with leaves growing from its head and dirt on its shoes. A zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary at all. It wore a dusty old baseball cap and held a wilting flower.

"Please," the zombie whispered in a rumbly voice like autumn leaves crunching. "My garden is dying. I need water to save my friends before sunset, or they'll fade away forever."

Lily looked at her teammates. The game was about to start. But she saw kindness in the zombie's muddy eyes.

"We'll help!" Lily cried. She grabbed her water bottle. Her whole team followed, running with bottles and buckets toward the zombie's garden behind the old oak tree.

Together, they watered every thirsty plant. Flowers perked up, vegetables plumped, and the zombie smiled—a warm, crumbly smile that made Lily's heart feel full.

"Thank you," said the zombie, pressing something into Lily's hand. It was a baseball made of pure sunshine, glowing golden warm. "Hit this, and you'll never miss."

Lily rushed back to the game just as the umpire shouted, "Play ball!" When it was her turn, she swung the sunshine baseball—CRACK! It sailed over the fence, a golden streak against the blue sky.

Her team cheered, but Lily knew the real victory wasn't the home run. It was helping a friend in need.

That night, Lily fell asleep smiling. Some monsters aren't scary at all. Sometimes, they just need a little water and kindness to bloom.
