The Zombie Who Needed Vitamin Sunshine

Lily loved exploring the attic while her dog, Barnaby, snoozed downstairs. One rainy afternoon, she discovered something strange: a thick, sparkling cable that disappeared through a tiny hole in the wall.

Curious, Lily gave the cable a gentle tug. Suddenly, the wall shimmered like moonlight on water, and she tumbled right through it!

She landed in a meadow filled with glowing flowers. There, sitting alone on a mushroom, was a zombie.

But this zombie wasn't scary at all. Her green skin looked more like mossy stone, and her stitches were made of golden thread. She wore a pretty flower crown and seemed wonderfully, wonderfully sad.

"Hello?" Lily said softly.

The zombie jumped. Her name was Zara, and she explained she lived between worlds—neither fully here nor there. "I'm so pale and gray," she sighed. "I wish I could sparkle like other magical creatures."

Barnaby suddenly bounded through the shimmering wall! He trotted right up to Zara and gave her hand a lick. Zara gasped—then giggled.

"Barnaby never licks people he doesn't trust," Lily realized. "You're not scary at all! You're just lonely."

Lily had an idea. "My mom says sunshine is like a vitamin that makes everything grow strong and happy. Come back with us!"

Through the magic cable, they returned home. For three days, Lily and Zara played in the sunshine. They danced. They picked flowers. They ate strawberries and laughed until their sides hurt.

On the third morning, Lily gasped. Zara's cheeks were pink! Her green skin now glowed emerald-bright, and when she smiled, little golden sparkles floated around her like fireflies.

"The vitamin sunshine worked!" Zara cried, hugging Lily tight.

Lily learned something wonderful that day: Things aren't always what they seem. And sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need a little sunshine, a faithful dog's kiss, and a true friend to help them shine.

Now, whenever Lily tugs that sparkling cable, Zara comes bounding through, and they all have wonderful adventures together—Lily, Barnaby, and the zombie who learned how to sparkle.
