The Zombie Who Needed Sunshine
Leo and his golden dog Mango loved exploring the forest behind their house. One sunny afternoon, they discovered something magical—a giant papaya tree with glowing orange fruit!
"Look at these papayas!" Leo cheered, reaching for the biggest one. But as his fingers touched the fruit, a sleepy voice grumbled from beneath the leaves.
"Please save that one," the voice said. "It's my daily vitamin."
Leo gasped as a zombie slowly sat up. But this wasn't a scary zombie like in movies. He wore colorful pajamas and had sad, kind eyes.
"I'm not going to eat you," Leo said bravely, with Mango wagging his tail.
"Of course not," the zombie sighed. "I'm Zimby. I've been asleep for one hundred years. I only wake up to eat one magical papaya each year—it's the only vitamin that keeps me from fading away forever."
Suddenly, bushes rustled. A giant bear appeared! Leo grabbed Mango, ready to run.
But the bear smiled warmly. "I'm Bella! Are you here for the Friendship Festival too?"
"Friendship Festival?" Zimby asked, perking up.
Bella nodded. "The magical papayas only grow when friends gather together. Zimby, you've been eating alone for a hundred years! That's why you're still so sleepy and pale. The real vitamin isn't the papaya—it's friendship!"
Leo's eyes widened. "So if we all share the papaya together..."
"...we'll all feel better!" Zimby finished, his gray skin turning pinker.
They cut the papaya into four pieces. Leo, Mango, Zimby, and Bella ate together under the tree. Golden sparkles swirled around them as laughter filled the forest.
"The best vitamin," Zimby beamed, "is sharing joy with friends."
Every day after school, Leo and Mango returned to the forest. Their new friends—Zimby, now colorful and full of energy, and gentle Bella—taught them that the strongest magic isn't found in fruits or potions. The greatest magic of all is friendship, kindness, and never letting anyone eat alone.
