The Zombie Who Needed Sunshine
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. Among dusty boxes and faded photographs, she found something peculiar: a floppy purple hat with silver stars sewn around the brim. When she placed it on her head, the attic seemed to shimmer.
"Who's there?" a voice called.
Lily jumped. Behind a stack of old trunks stood a boy who looked slightly transparent, with patchy clothes and tired eyes. He looked like a zombie from storybooks, but his smile was warm, not scary.
"I'm Zephyr," he said. "I've been waiting for someone with a magic hat for a very long time."
Zephyr explained that he was a garden spirit who had faded because he hadn't received his special vitamin—the vitamin of friendship and kindness for one hundred years. Only someone wearing the magic hat could see him and help him become whole again.
"I'll be your friend!" Lily promised.
Every day after school, Lily visited Zephyr. They played hide-and-seek among the attic treasures, shared stories, and Zephyr taught her to make fireflies dance. Lily's grandmother was surprised to see Lily so happy, but Lily just patted her purple hat mysteriously.
As their friendship grew, Zephyr became less transparent and more solid. His patchy clothes transformed into a bright green outfit, and his tired eyes sparkled with joy.
On the hundredth day, Zephyr glowed golden. "You've given me more than friendship, Lily. You've taught me that the best vitamin in the world is kindness."
Zephyr handed Lily a small pouch of magical seeds. "Plant these, and remember: real friends never fade."
The next day, Zephyr was gone, but in the garden, beautiful moonflowers had bloomed overnight. And whenever Lily wore her purple hat, she could still hear Zephyr's gentle laughter in the breeze.
She learned that true magic isn't in spells or potions, but in the friends we make and the kindness we share. And every moonflower that blooms reminds her that even the loneliest heart can find sunshine in a friend.
