The Zombie Who Needed Friends

Lily loved Saturdays. But this Saturday felt extra special because she had her orange cat, Marmalade, by her side. They were running through the backyard when something strange caught Lily's eye.

A thick black cable snaked through the grass, glowing with tiny sparkles. "What's this?" Lily whispered. Marmalade meowed curiously and pawed at the magical wire.

"Let's follow it!" Lily declared. The cable led them behind the old oak tree, through a hedge, and into a part of the woods they'd never explored before. The cable hummed with energy, and Lily felt brave with her fluffy friend beside her.

Suddenly, the cable stopped at a cozy treehouse. But what they saw made them gasp! A green figure sat on the porch, moving slowly and sadly. It looked like a zombie!

Lily wanted to run, but Marmalade rubbed against the creature's leg and purred. The zombie's face brightened immediately. "You're not scared?" it asked in a soft, kind voice.

"Are you... a real zombie?" Lily asked, stepping closer.

"I'm Zara," the zombie said. "I'm just lonely. Everyone runs away when they see me, even though I only want to play."

Lily noticed Zara had the most beautiful collection of toys—dolls, cars, and stuffed animals—but no one to share them with. "That's not fair!" Lily said. "Being different doesn't mean you're scary."

Marmalade jumped onto Zara's lap, and the zombie giggled. "Your cat is wonderful!"

"Want to play tag?" Lily asked. "I bet you're really fast!"

Zara's eyes lit up. They spent the afternoon running around the meadow, playing hide-and-seek, and having the best adventure ever. Zara wasn't scary at all—she was funny, kind, and loved to play.

"You'll come back, right?" Zara asked when the sun began to set.

"Every Saturday!" Lily promised, hugging her new friend. "And I'll bring more friends. Being different makes you special, not scary."

That night, Lily learned something wonderful: sometimes the scariest-looking things just need a little kindness and a brave heart to discover the magic underneath. And sometimes, the best friends come in the most unexpected packages.
