The Zombie Who Needed Friends
Mia loved the old palm tree behind her house. It had been there longer than anyone could remember, its fronds dancing in the warm breeze. One Tuesday afternoon, something strange happened.
An orange glow appeared between the palm leaves. curious, Mia climbed up. She gasped! A tiny orange creature with sparkly wings sat on a branch.
"I'm Pip!" the creature squeaked. "Come with me!"
Pip fluttered away. Mia followed through the forest until she reached the sparkling River of Dreams. The water shimmered with rainbow colors.
Suddenly, a massive bull blocked her path. It had golden horns and wise old eyes.
"Only the brave may cross," the bull rumbled gently. "Are you afraid of what lies ahead?"
Mia nodded but kept walking. That's when she saw him—a zombie boy sitting alone on a rock. He looked green and sad, but somehow kind.
"Go away," he mumbled. "Everyone runs from me."
Mia didn't run. Instead, she sat beside him. "I'm Mia. What's your name?"
The zombie boy looked surprised. "Zane. I haven't had a friend in three hundred years."
"That must be lonely," Mia said softly. She held out her hand.
Zane's eyes widened. He slowly reached out, and their fingers touched. Suddenly, his green skin turned rosy pink!
"Friendship breaks the curse," the bull appeared behind them. "Zane was cursed to look scary until someone brave enough offered friendship."
Pip the orange creature danced around them happily. The magical water bubbled with joy.
Now Zane visits Mia every day. They play under the palm tree, and Zane tells stories from long ago. Mia learned that sometimes, the scariest things just need a little kindness.
And whenever someone new seems frightening, Mia remembers Zane and smiles. Because you never know who might become your best friend—if you're brave enough to say hello.
