The Zombie Who Needed Friends

Lily was running through the garden when she spotted something strange behind the old oak tree. A small green figure sat slumped against the bark, looking very sad.

"Hello?" Lily called out softly.

The figure looked up. It was a zombie, but not a scary one. This zombie had patchy blue hair, one button eye, and wore a colorful sweater. He looked more lonely than frightening.

"I'm Zummy," the zombie said quietly. "I'm not scary. I'm just... tired all the time."

Lily's pet goldfish, Fin, swam in his bowl on the porch. Fin was magical – he could understand feelings. He swam to the edge of his bowl and bubbled excitedly.

"Fin says you need something special!" Lily exclaimed. She remembered her grandmother's words about the vitamin sunshine berries that grew only in the secret meadow.

"Will you help me find them?" Zummy asked hopelessly.

Lily grabbed Fin's bowl, and they set off running through the whispering woods. The trees seemed to lean in, watching them pass. Birds sang cheerful songs as they raced toward the secret meadow.

When they arrived, the meadow glowed with golden berries. But they grew high up on sparkle-bushes!

"I can't reach," Zummy sighed.

"Together we can!" Lily said. She climbed onto Zummy's shoulders, holding Fin's bowl carefully. With Zummy's strength and Lily's reach, they gathered handfuls of the magical vitamin berries.

Zummy ate three berries and suddenly sat up straighter. His button eye sparkled, and his blue hair puffed up like a cloud. "I feel... wonderful!"

"You were never sick," Fin seemed to say with happy bubbles. "You just needed friends to share your journey."

Lily realized something important: sometimes what we think we need isn't what we really need at all. The vitamin berries helped, but friendship was the true magic.

From that day on, Zummy was never tired again. He, Lily, and Fin spent their days running through the garden, laughing in the sunshine, and sharing berry picnics under the old oak tree. And every night, Zummy would water the sparkle-bushes so other lonely creatures might find their way to friendship too.

Because the best adventures are the ones we share with friends.
