The Zombie Who Loved Water
Lily and Max were best friends who loved playing in their secret spot behind the old willow tree. Every afternoon, they'd go running through the meadow, laughing as the grass tickled their bare feet.
One hot summer day, they discovered something magical—a sparkling stream that appeared out of nowhere, its water so clear it looked like liquid diamonds.
'Where did this come from?' Lily whispered, dipping her toes in the cool water.
Suddenly, they heard rustling in the bushes. Out stumbled a greenish creature with messy hair and clothes that looked twisted and wrong. It shuffled toward them, arms stretched out.
'A zombie!' Max squealed, grabbing Lily's hand. They started running, but then something made them stop.
The zombie wasn't chasing them. It was pointing at the water, making sad little sounds. Its face looked lonely, not scary.
Lily stepped closer. 'Are you... okay?'
The zombie nodded and pointed at its throat, then at the sparkling water. It was thirsty!
'Oh!' Lily understood. 'You need water!' She cupped her hands and offered some to the creature.
The zombie drank greedily, and as the magical water touched its lips, something wonderful happened. Its greenish skin turned pink, its messy hair smoothed out, and its clothes untangled themselves.
'Thank you,' the creature said, smiling. 'I'm not really a zombie. I'm a water sprite who got lost in the Dark Forest. The magic there made me look all wrong.'
Max and Lily's eyes went wide. 'A real magical sprite?'
The sprite nodded. 'You showed me kindness instead of fear. That's the strongest magic of all.'
From that day on, the three friends spent every afternoon playing by the magical stream. And whenever other kids ran away from anything scary, Lily and Max knew the truth: sometimes, the scariest-looking things just need a little kindness and a drink of cool water to show their true, beautiful selves.
