The Zombie Who Loved Water

Pip was not like other zombies. In fact, she wasn't a zombie at all—she just dressed like one for the neighborhood's annual costume parade. Her gray face paint and ragged clothes were merely a disguise. What nobody knew was that Pip was actually a junior spy for the Society of Secret Friends, a group of kids who helped others in need.

On this sunny Saturday, Pip's spy watch beeped with a mysterious message: HELP NEEDED AT THE OLD POND.

Pip rushed through the woods, her zombie costume flopping in the breeze. When she reached the pond, she discovered something magical. The water was glowing with soft blue light, and in the middle floated a small golden dog. But this wasn't just any dog—it was made entirely of water!

The water dog whimpered, its ripples spreading across the pond. "I'm stuck," the dog splashed sadly. "I belong to the Moon Spirit, but I wandered too far from home and can't find my way back."

Pip's spy training kicked in. She knew exactly what to do. The Society's handbook had taught her that water spirits need moonlight to travel. But the moon wouldn't rise until evening.

"Don't worry," Pip said, dipping her hand into the cool water. The dog licked her fingers with a wet, tickly tongue. "I'll wait with you."

All afternoon, the zombie spy sat by the pond, telling stories and making the water dog laugh with tiny splashes. They watched dragonflies dance and listened to frogs sing. Pip realized something important: being a spy wasn't just about solving mysteries—it was about making friends, too.

As the sun began to set, the first silver moonbeam touched the water. The golden dog glowed brighter and brighter.

"Thank you, Zombie Friend," the dog splashed warmly. "You taught me that kindness matters more than disguises."

The water dog dissolved into sparkling droplets that raced across the pond toward the moon's reflection. Pip watched until every drop had found its way home.

Her spy watch beeped again: MISSION COMPLETE. TRUE FRIENDSHIP UNLOCKED.

Pip smiled and wiped her gray face paint with a splash of pond water. Being a spy was wonderful, but being a friend was even better.
