The Zombie Who Loved to Swim

In the dusty corner of Leo's bedroom lived Zombot, a stuffed toy with green stitches and a friendly smile. Leo had found him at the garage sale last summer, and even though Zombot looked a little scruffy, Leo knew he was special.

"Today's the day, Zombot!" Leo announced, holding up his bright orange vitamin bottle. "Grandma says these vitamins give us energy for adventures. Let's go swimming!"

Zombot seemed to wiggle in Leo's hands. And then—something magical happened. Zombot's button eyes sparkled, and his stitched smile stretched into a grin!

"Swimming?" Zombot croaked in a squeaky voice. "But I'm just a zombie toy! I might float away!"

Leo laughed. "Not with my special floaties! And I bet you're the bravest zombie in the whole world."

At the pool, other kids pointed and whispered. "Look at that green zombie!" someone giggled. But Leo stood tall. "This is Zombot, and he's going to learn how to swim today. Want to watch?"

Something about Leo's confidence made everyone curious. They gathered around the pool's edge as Leo helped Zombot into the water with bright yellow arm floaties.

"Just kick your legs like a frog!" Leo called out. Zombot splashed and wobbled, but with each kick, he grew stronger. The vitamins Leo had slipped into his toy's pocket (just pretend ones, of course) seemed to be working!

By afternoon, Zombot was zooming through the water like a pro. The other kids cheered, and soon everyone wanted to race the swimming zombie. Even shy Molly from down the street asked if she could practice with them.

"Being different isn't scary," Zombot said later, wrapped in a fluffy towel. "It's magical. Because if I was just a regular stuffed animal, I never would have made so many friends."

Leo hugged his zombie friend tight. "And that's the best adventure of all."

That night, Zombot didn't go back to the corner. He slept right next to Leo's pillow, dreaming of tomorrow's adventure—and all the friends they would meet along the way.
