The Zombie Who Loved to Swim

Lily was swimming in the sparkling blue lake when she spotted something strange. A green figure stood near the old willow tree, its wild orange hair glowing like sunset. It looked like a zombie from her favorite storybooks, but something was different.

"Hello?" Lily called out, swimming closer to shore.

The zombie didn't moan or shuffle. Instead, it waved happily! "I'm Zara! I'm not scary — I'm magical!"

Lily laughed and stepped out of the water. Zara's orange hair bobbed with excitement. "I've been watching you swim," Zara said. "I used to love swimming too, but I lost my confidence. The other zombies made fun of how slow I was."

Lily's heart went out to her new friend. "Everyone starts somewhere! Want to learn together?"

Zara's face lit up. But then she looked worried. "I can't find my lucky seashell. It helps me feel brave."

Lily reached into her pocket and pulled out her iphone. "Maybe we can use my flashlight to search!"

Together, they looked under rocks and around the old willow tree. The iphone's light cut through the gathering dusk. Finally, Zara spotted something sparkling in the grass — a beautiful pearl seashell!

"You found it!" Zara cheered, her orange hair bouncing. "Now I'm ready to swim!"

Hand in hand, they walked into the water. Zara was nervous at first, but Lily showed her how to float like a starfish. Soon, Zara was gliding through the water with a giant smile.

"You're a natural!" Lily said.

"Because I have a friend who believes in me," Zara replied.

They swam until the stars appeared, two unlikely friends splashing under the moonlight. Lily learned that sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to see the magic inside them.

And Zara learned that with friendship and courage, even a zombie could discover the joy of swimming.
