The Zombie Who Loved to Swim

Lily, Max, and Emma loved the old community pool. But nobody ever went there at night.

One evening, they forgot their favorite padel racket by the diving board. When they returned under moonlight, something magical happened.

The water began glowing. Soft blue light rippled across the surface. Then, up from the deep end rose not a monster, but a lonely-looking green figure.

"I'm Zed," the zombie said gently. "And I've been waiting three hundred years for someone to play with me."

The children weren't scared. Zed looked friendly, with one crooked tooth and kind eyes. He explained he'd been a magical guardian, cursed to live in the pool until he could make three friends.

"But I can't leave the water," Zed sighed sadly. "And nobody stays long enough to play."

Emma's eyes widened. "We could swim WITH you!"

For hours, they splashed and raced. Zed taught them magical underwater games. They ran along the pool's edge, jumping in with cannonballs that created rainbows. Zed showed them how the water whispered secrets and reflected starlight into wishes.

When it was time to leave, Zed looked sad again. "You'll come back, right?"

"Every day!" promised Max, clutching his padel.

The children returned daily. They brought other kids, and soon the pool became the most magical place in town. Adults thought the children were just imaginative, but the kids knew the truth.

Zed had found something more powerful than magic — friendship. And the children learned that sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to see who they really are inside.

The pool stayed glowing, and Zed was never lonely again.
