The Zombie Who Loved to Swim

Lily and Max loved spending summer days at Crystal Lake. The water sparkled like diamonds under the sun, and there was nothing better than swimming with friends.

One afternoon, while practicing their underwater somersaults, they spotted something strange near the old wooden dock. A greenish figure was stumbling toward them, arms stretched out, making weird groaning sounds.

"It's a zombie!" whispered Max, his eyes wide. But Lily noticed something curious. The zombie was wearing bright pink goggles and a striped swim cap.

"Wait," said Lily. "Let's watch."

The zombie reached the water's edge and—instead of attacking—plopped down with a joyful splash! She began doing backstrokes with surprising grace, her green skin turning out to be just face paint from last week's party.

"Hello!" called the zombie, waving. "I'm Zara! I've been practicing my strokes every day, but I keep losing my goggles in excitement."

Lily and Max laughed and swam over to meet their new friend. Zara wasn't scary at all—she just loved the water as much as they did. Together, they spent the afternoon playing water tag and having diving competitions.

"I learned something today," said Max as they dried off on the dock. "Sometimes things that seem scary are actually just new friends we haven't met yet."

Zara handed them each an extra pair of goggles from her bag. "Same time tomorrow?"

"Definitely!" Lily and Max chorused.

And so began the most unusual friendship at Crystal Lake—where a zombie, two kids, and endless swimming adventures proved that the best surprises come when you're brave enough to look beyond appearances.
