The Zombie Who Loved to Splash

Lily and Ben were bored. It was the hottest day of summer, and even the ice cream truck couldn't cool them down. Then Lily had an idea.

"Let's build something!" she cheered.

In the sandbox, they stacked colorful boxes and blocks—higher and higher until they had created their very own pyramid, reaching toward the clouds like a magical castle from ancient times.

"I'm the Queen of the Pyramid!" Lily declared, standing on top with her plastic crown.

"And I'm the guard!" Ben shouted, brandishing a toy sword.

But something green peeked out from beneath the sandbox toys—a forgotten action figure Ben had buried months ago. It was his zombie toy, with messy green hair and one googly eye. Ben had hidden it because he thought zombies were supposed to be scary.

The zombie looked sad, abandoned, and lonely.

"Wait," Lily said, climbing down to pick it up. "Maybe he's not scary. Maybe he just needs a friend."

She brought the zombie to their inflatable pool. "What if zombies love to splash?"

Ben's eyes widened. He'd never thought of that! Together, they placed the gentle zombie into the cool water. Splash! The zombie did a silly backflip, sending water everywhere. Both children giggled as the zombie bobbed and floated like a happy swimmer.

"He's not scary at all!" Ben laughed. "He's the most fun toy ever!"

All afternoon, they played—building pyramid cities around the pool, having zombie diving contests, and creating the most wonderful adventure. The zombie wasn't a monster. He was their friend.

As the sun set, Lily and Ben learned something important: sometimes the things we think are scary are just waiting for someone to give them a chance. Even zombies need friendship, especially on hot summer days.

And from that day on, the zombie wasn't forgotten anymore. He had the best seat right beside their pyramid, ready for another splash tomorrow.
