The Zombie Who Loved to Splash

Maya sat by the edge of her backyard pool, dangling her feet in the cool blue water. Her golden retriever, Max, paddled happily beside her, splashing water everywhere.

"You love swimming, don't you, Max?" Maya giggled as the dog shook his wet fur, sending droplets flying like tiny diamonds.

That's when she noticed something strange. A thick black cable snaked across the grass, glowing with a soft purple light. Maya had never seen it before. Curious, she followed the cable behind the old garden shed, where she found a dusty wooden box.

Inside the box sat a small zombie toy she'd forgotten she owned—green skin, tattered clothes, and a friendly stitched smile. It was the toy from her favorite video game, "Zombie Friends."

Suddenly, lightning flashed across the darkening sky! CRACK-BOOM! A bolt struck the cable, sending magical purple sparks racing toward the box.

Maya gasped as the tiny zombie began to grow. And grow. Until he stood as tall as her, blinking his eyes and stretching his arms.

"Hello?" said the zombie, whose name was Zigg. "Where am I?"

Max barked happily, wagging his tail so hard his whole body wiggled. The zombie didn't look scary at all—he looked friendly and a little confused.

"I'm Maya, and this is Max," she said. "You came to life because of the magic cable and the lightning!"

Zigg spotted the pool. His eyes grew wide. "Is that... water? I've always wanted to swim! In my game, zombies only walked around on dry land."

"Jump in!" Maya invited.

Zigg dipped one green foot in, then the other, and soon he was splashing alongside Max. The zombie and the dog played for hours—Zigg taught Max how to do zombie underwater walks, and Max showed Zigg how to catch floating toys.

As the sun set, Maya realized something wonderful: sometimes the things that seem different or strange can become the best friends of all. Zigg wasn't scary—he was just someone who needed a chance to show who he really was.

"Come back tomorrow, Zigg!" Maya called as the magical glow faded and Zigg shrank back into his toy form.

The cable sparkled once more, tucking itself away for another day. But Maya knew that when lightning struck again, her zombie friend would return for more pool adventures with her and Max.
