The Zombie Who Loved to Play
In the sleepy town of Willow Creek, there lived a gentle zombie named Zombey. But Zombey wasn't like the scary zombies in movies — he was just a lonely, green-skinned boy who loved sports more than anything.
Every afternoon, Zombey would hide behind the old oak tree near the park, watching children play. His favorite games were baseball and padel, a fun racquet game similar to tennis. Zombey would memorize every swing, every hit, and every cheer.
"I wish I could play too," he sighed, his stitched smile drooping.
One sunny day, a brave girl named Lily spotted Zombey peeking from behind the tree. Instead of running away, she waved!
"Hi! I'm Lily. Do you want to play padel with us?"
Zombey's eyes widened. "You're not scared?"
Lily laughed. "Why would I be scared? You look friendly! And you've been watching us for weeks. You must love sports!"
Zombey shuffled forward, his heart pounding with excitement. For the first time ever, he stepped onto the padel court. Lily handed him a racquet. It felt perfect in his green hand.
"Try hitting the ball!" Lily encouraged.
Zombey swung the racquet. WHACK! The ball sailed over the net.
"You're a natural!" Lily cheered. "Now let's teach you baseball!"
The children welcomed Zombey warmly. They showed him how to swing a baseball bat, how to catch a fly ball, and how to slide into home plate. Zombey learned that his zombie strength made him an incredible batter, and his quiet nature made him a patient catcher.
"Being different isn't bad," Zombey realized, grinning his stitched smile. "It just means you have special gifts!"
From that day on, Zombey wasn't the lonely zombie behind the tree anymore. He became Zombey the Star Player, the friend who taught everyone that kindness and courage are the most important things in any game.
And sometimes, when the sun sets over Willow Creek, you can still see him and Lily playing their favorite game — a magical mix of baseball and padel that they invented together, called "Zombey-ball."
