The Zombie Who Loved to Play
Lily's backyard pool sparkled like diamonds in the summer sun. She loved floating on her back, watching fluffy clouds drift by. But today, something strange splashed into the water.
Lily peeked over her inflatable flamingo. A green figure bobbed in the water—arms waving, eyes wide. A zombie!
She scrambled toward the pool house, but then she heard it.
"Wait! Please don't run!"
The zombie's voice sounded squeaky and sad. Lily stopped. She'd never heard a zombie speak before.
"I'm Zara," the zombie said, paddling over to the pool's edge. "I don't want to eat brains. I just want to play."
Lily's eyes widened. "Play what?"
Zara held up a shiny racket. "Padel! I've watched you and your friends playing from behind the bushes. It looks like SO much fun. But nobody ever wants to play with me."
Lily's heart melted. "You've been watching us?"
"Every weekend," Zara admitted, looking at her green feet. "I live in the old shed. I'm actually quite good at sports. Zombie reflexes are super fast!"
Lily giggled. "Okay, Zara. Let's play padel. But first—you need sunscreen. That green skin is going to burn!"
They played until the sun began to set. Zara was amazing! She hit the ball so hard it zoomed over the fence.
"You're the best padel player ever!" Lily cheered.
Zara smiled, her pointy teeth not scary at all. "Really?"
"Really!" Lily said. "And tomorrow, you're meeting my friends. They're going to LOVE you."
That night, Lily learned something wonderful: sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need a friend. And sometimes, the best friends come in the most surprising packages—even green, zombie ones who love padel.
The pool wasn't just for swimming anymore. It was where Lily found the adventure of a lifetime—and a friend she'd keep forever.
