The Zombie Who Loved to Play
Lily and Max were best friends who loved summer. Every day brought a new adventure!
One morning, they grabbed their padel rackets and ran to the community court. Padel was their favorite game—it was like tennis but with walls you could hit the ball against! They laughed as the ball bounced wildly.
"Race you to the pool!" Max called after their game.
They dove into the cool blue water, swimming laps and playing tag. The sun sparkled on the surface like diamonds.
Suddenly, they heard a noise behind the bushes. A slow, shuffling figure emerged. It had pale green skin and messy clothes. Lily gasped. "Is that... a ZOMBIE?!"
The zombie stepped forward. His name tag read: NEW HERE. He looked sad and lonely.
"Hi," Lily whispered, stepping closer. "I'm Lily, and this is Max. What's your name?"
The zombie's face lit up. "Barnaby!" he said, and his voice was kind, not scary at all. "I just moved here. Everyone runs away when they see me. I only wanted to make friends."
Max had an idea. "Do you like sports?"
Barnaby's eyes widened. "I LOVE baseball! But nobody will play with me."
That afternoon, Lily, Max, and Barnaby played the best baseball game ever. Barnaby wasn't scary at all—he was funny, kind, and hit home runs! The other kids watched, then slowly joined in. Soon, everyone was laughing and playing together.
Barnaby smiled. "Nobody gave me a chance before. You two did."
Lily hugged her new friend. "We learned something important today. Never judge someone by how they look. The best friends come in the most surprising packages!"
And from that day on, the zombie who loved to play became everyone's favorite teammate. Sometimes the most magical friendships start with being brave enough to say hello.
