The Zombie Who Loved to Play

Lily's cat, Whiskers, bolted toward the old park with something mysterious glowing in his mouth. It was an iPhone, but not like any phone Lily had ever seen—it shimmered with purple light!

She chased Whiskers under the twisted oak tree, where the iPhone suddenly projected a glowing game court onto the grass. A dusty figure shuffled forward from the shadows. It was green and patchy, with button eyes and floppy stitches. A zombie? Lily gasped, but this zombie wore a friendly smile and carried a racquet.

"I'm Zed," the zombie said softly. "I've been waiting 100 years for someone to play padel with me."

Lily's eyes widened. "Padel? Is that like baseball?"

Zed chuckled, his laugh sounding like autumn leaves crunching. "Similar, but played in a magical court with walls! The ball bounces everywhere!"

The iPhone suddenly transformed into a magical scoreboard, floating in mid-air. Zed taught Lily how to hold the racquet, and soon they were hitting a glowing ball that changed colors with every hit—blue, pink, gold! Whiskers the cat chased after it, pouncing playfully whenever it came near.

Lily realized Zed wasn't scary at all. He was just lonely.

"I thought zombies were scary," Lily said between hits.

Zed's stitched smile softened. "People fear what they don't understand. I may look different, but I just want a friend."

They played until sunset, the magical court fading as the stars appeared. Zed pressed something into Lily's hand—a small baseball made of moonlight.

"Anytime you want to play, just hold this and think of our court," Zed whispered, becoming translucent. "Thank you for seeing the real me."

Lily hugged the moonlight baseball tight. Some things that seem scary might just be lonely, waiting for someone brave enough to say hello. And sometimes, the best friends come from the most unexpected places.

Whiskers purred, and the iPhone's purple glow faded as Lily skipped home, her heart full of magic and new friendship.
