The Zombie Who Loved to Play
In the sleepy town of Willow Creek, where the sun always seemed to smile, there lived a most unusual zombie named Zed. But Zed wasn't like the zombies in scary stories. He didn't want brains. He wanted friends!
Zed stumbled awkwardly through the park, his green skin glowing softly in the moonlight. Children had always run away screaming, until brave little Luna spotted him. Instead of running, she waved!
"Are you okay?" Luna asked, tilting her head.
Zed's eyes lit up. "I'm lonely," he rumbled, his voice like gentle thunder. "Will you play with me?"
Luna smiled and pointed to the padel court nearby. "I'm practicing for the big tournament tomorrow. Want to learn?"
Zed's clumsy fingers tried to hold the small racquet. He kept dropping it, but Luna didn't laugh. She showed him how to stand, how to swing, how to hit the bouncing ball. THWACK! The ball sailed over the net. Zed did a happy little jig, his feet shuffling in a funny dance.
"You're a natural!" Luna cheered.
The next day, Luna invited Zed to the community pool for swimming lessons. Other children gasped when they saw the green zombie standing poolside in bright orange swim trunks.
"Don't be scared," Luna told them. "Zed is our friend."
One by one, the children jumped in. Zed slipped into the cool blue water and something magical happened – he floated perfectly! His zombie body was somehow buoyant, like a cork. He could stay underwater longer than anyone else, exploring the bottom of the pool like a friendly sea creature.
Soon, children were splashing around Zed, playing tag and having races. Zed wasn't lonely anymore. He had something special: friendship.
That evening, as the stars twinkled above, Zed realized something wonderful. Being different didn't mean being scary. Sometimes, the most unexpected friends teach us the best lessons about kindness, courage, and how to play with an open heart.
And from that day on, whenever anyone in Willow Creek saw Zed, they didn't run away. They ran toward him, racquet in hand, ready for another game of padel and another afternoon of swimming with their very best zombie friend.
