The Zombie Who Loved the Water

Lily was the only girl in town with bright purple hair that sparkled like tiny stars in the sunlight. The other children whispered that her hair was magic, and they were right — whenever she was happy, her hair glowed!

One hot afternoon, Lily followed a secret path through the woods until she found a crystal-clear pond. But something strange was there. A green figure shuffled slowly through the water. Everyone in town called it the pond zombie and warned children to stay away.

But Lily was curious. She stepped closer and saw that the zombie wasn't scary at all. It was a gentle creature with long green hair made of soft seaweed and big, kind eyes.

"Please don't run away," it said in a whisper like bubbles popping. "I've been so lonely. Everyone thinks I'm a monster because I'm green and I move slowly."

Lily smiled, and her purple hair began to glow. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"

"Zimby," the creature said, its face lighting up. "Do you want to see something magical?"

Zimby led Lily into the water, which felt warm like a blanket. They dove down together, and Lily gasped. Under the water was a whole hidden world! Colorful fish danced around them, and flowers bloomed on the pond floor.

"I protect this place," Zimby said proudly. "The water gives me life, and I keep it clean and safe."

Lily understood then. Zimby wasn't a zombie — it was a guardian! The creature had green skin because it lived in the water, and moved slowly so it wouldn't scare the fish.

"Will you be my friend?" Zimby asked shyly.

"Yes!" Lily said, her hair shining so brightly it lit up the whole underwater world.

Every day after that, Lily visited Zimby. She learned that things that seem scary at first might just be different — and different can be wonderful. Sometimes the best friends are the ones you have to be brave enough to say hello to.

Soon other children followed Lily to the pond. At first they were frightened of Zimby, but when they saw how kindly it cared for the water and all the creatures, they understood too.

And that's how the town learned that magic and friendship can be found in the most unexpected places — even in a pond, with someone who looks a little different but has the biggest heart.
