The Zombie Who Loved Sports

Leo loved sports more than anything in the world. Every Saturday, he played baseball with his friends in the park, hitting home runs and sliding into bases until the sun went down.

But Leo had a secret friend that nobody else knew about. His name was Zed, and Zed was a zombie.

Zed wasn't scary at all. He had green skin and sometimes his arm fell off, but he was the friendliest zombie you could ever meet. Zed lived in the old shed behind the baseball field, and every evening after Leo's games, Zed would peek through the cracks and watch.

"I wish I could play sports too," Zed sighed one day, his voice sounding like crunching leaves. "But everyone would be too scared of me."

Leo thought hard. Then he had the brilliant idea! "What about padel?" he asked excitedly. "We could play at night when nobody's around! And you could wear my extra helmet and goggles so nobody would see your face!"

Zed's eyes lit up like sparklers. The old park had a padel court that nobody used anymore. That night, under the moonlight, Leo taught Zed how to hold the racket and hit the ball.

At first, Zed was clumsy. His feet shuffled slowly, and sometimes he tripped over his own loose shoelaces. But Leo was patient. "Keep trying, Zed! You're getting better every time!"

And he did! Soon, Zed was hitting the ball back and forth with Leo, laughing with a happy groan that sounded like rusty hinges. They played every night, and Zed became faster and stronger.

One day, Leo's baseball team needed one more player for a big game. Leo looked at Zed hiding behind the trees and made a decision.

"This is my friend Zed," Leo told his team. "He's different, but he's kind and he loves baseball. Please give him a chance."

The team looked nervous, but they trusted Leo. When Zed stepped onto the field, his green skin shining in the sun, nobody ran away. Instead, they watched him hit the ball harder than anyone had ever seen before!

Zed's helmet flew off, but nobody screamed. They cheered!

"Wow!" shouted Leo's best friend Maya. "You're amazing! Can you teach me that swing?"

That day, Zed learned that being different didn't mean being alone. And Leo learned that true friendship means including everyone, no matter how strange they might seem.

Now, every Saturday, you can find them all together — playing baseball in the sunshine and padel under the moonlight, because the best games are the ones where everyone gets to play.
