The Zombie Who Loved Splash Day

Lily woke up excited. Today was the neighborhood pool party! She grabbed her favorite towel and ran outside.

The pool was already full of laughing kids. Lily jumped right in, splashing and swimming with her best friends. The water felt magical, sparkling like diamonds under the sun.

Then she saw him. A green figure shuffled near the fence. He looked sad.

"Is that... a zombie?" whispered her friend Jake. Everyone stopped swimming. They had heard stories about zombies being scary.

But this zombie just stood there, holding something behind his back. His skin was green, yes, and his clothes were torn. But his eyes looked kind.

Lily swam to the edge. "Hi there!" she called.

The zombie looked surprised. "Hi," he mumbled. "I'm Zed. I heard laughing."

"We're having a pool party!" said Lily. "Do you... want to join?"

Zed's face lit up. He pulled a padel racket from behind his back—a bright blue one, perfect for pool games. "I brought this. I love padel. My old friends wouldn't play with me because... well, look at me."

Lily smiled. "So what? Come play!"

Soon, Zed was swimming laps faster than anyone. He loved the water! Then they played padel, hitting a soft ball back and forth over a mini net. Zed was amazing at it, laughing and cheering.

"Zombies aren't scary," Jake said later, eating ice cream with Zed. "They're just friends who haven't met us yet!"

Zed beamed. For the first time, he felt like he belonged. And the neighborhood kids learned something wonderful: never judge someone by how they look. The best friends might surprise you.
