The Zombie Who Loved Spinach

Maya lived in a cozy cottage at the edge of the Whispering Woods, where her wild curly hair bounced like golden springs with every step. Her best friend was Mochi, a fluffy orange cat with emerald eyes who purred like a tiny motor.

Every evening, Maya harvested magical spinach from her garden — leaves that shimmered like stardust and made you feel brave when you ate them. But lately, something strange had been happening. Her spinach patch looked messy in the mornings, as if someone had been dancing through it.

"Don't worry," Mochi meowed, touching Maya's hand with his soft paw. "We'll solve this mystery together."

That night, Maya hid behind her pumpkin patch with Mochi curled in her lap. At midnight, she saw him — a lumpy green figure shuffling into her garden. But he wasn't scary. He was wearing a funny polka-dot hat and humming a gentle tune.

The zombie's name was Zucchini, and he wasn't looking for brains. He was looking for friends! His green skin had turned that color from eating too many vegetables, and he moved slowly because he always stopped to admire every flower.

"I saw your beautiful spinach," Zucchini said shyly, "and I wanted to help you garden, but I'm clumsy."

Maya's hair bounced excitedly. "You can help us! I'm Maya, and this is Mochi."

Zucchini's eyes lit up like lanterns. For the first time in forever, he had friends. They spent the night planting moonflowers and singing to the spinach.

By morning, the whole village came to see what was happening. But instead of being scared, they saw something magical — a girl with bouncing hair, a cat purring on a zombie's shoulder, and the most magnificent garden anyone had ever seen.

"Sometimes," Maya told everyone, "the things we think are scary are just lonely hearts waiting for friendship."

And that's how Zucchini the zombie became the town's best gardener, proving that kindness can grow anywhere — even in the most unexpected places.
