The Zombie Who Loved Spinach
In a cozy little house at the end of Maple Street lived a girl named Lily. Every afternoon, she loved running through the backyard, playing among the flowers and vegetables her grandmother had planted.
One day, while Lily was watering the garden, she noticed something strange. A small, green figure was sitting beside the spinach patch, nibbling on leaves with a delighted smile. It was a zombie—but not a scary one at all! This zombie had sparkling blue eyes, patched-overalled overalls, and the friendliest grin Lily had ever seen.
"Hello!" Lily waved, setting down her watering can. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"
The zombie swallowed a mouthful of spinach and patted his chest. "Zimby," he said, his voice sounding like autumn leaves crunching underfoot.
Zimby explained that he had escaped from a nearby carnival after people mistook him for a scary monster. "But I'm not scary," he said sadly. "I just wanted to make friends."
Lily noticed something shiny dangling from Zimby's pocket—a thick metal cable with a colorful plug on the end. "What's that?"
"My magic cable," Zimby said proudly. "It belonged to the carnival's music machine. When I plug it into anything, it starts dancing and singing!"
Suddenly, Lily's grandmother called from the kitchen. "Lily! The radio won't work for the party tonight!"
Lily's eyes lit up. She grabbed Zimby's hand—his skin felt like cool, smooth stones. "Come with me, Zimby! We can help!"
Together they ran into the house, where the old radio sat silent on the counter. Zimby plugged his magic cable into the back of the radio, and suddenly—music filled the room! Not just any music, but happy, dancing tunes that made everyone want to twirl.
Grandmother's party that evening was the most magical ever. Zimby sat in the corner, happily eating spinach from a bowl while children danced to his magical cable music. No one was scared of him at all.
"You know," Grandmother said, patting Zimby's shoulder, "sometimes the things we think are scary turn out to be our best friends."
Zimby beamed, spinach stuck in his teeth like little green jewels. Lily smiled too, knowing that sometimes running into something unexpected could lead to the most wonderful adventures.
From that day on, Zimby became the guardian of the garden, and every afternoon, Lily would find him sitting among the spinach, waiting for her next visit. They had discovered that kindness and friendship could transform even the most unlikely encounters into magic.
