The Zombie Who Loved Spinach
Lily was playing with her iPhone when her golden retriever, Barnaby, started barking at the garden. His tail wagged furiously, like he'd discovered a treasure.
"What is it, boy?" Lily followed him into the backyard.
There, among the roses, stood a green creature with patchy clothes and stitched-up skin. A zombie! But instead of being scary, he looked sad and tired.
"Hello?" Lily whispered.
The zombie sighed. "I'm Zed. I've been asleep for one hundred years. My magical garden is dying, and without it, I'll fade away."
Barnaby licked Zed's hand. The zombie's eyes lit up. "Dogs have always been the guardians of magic. He can help us!"
Lily's iPhone suddenly glowed. A magical app appeared: *Garden Rescue*. It showed a list of ingredients needed to restore Zed's garden. At the top was one word: SPINACH.
"Spinach?" Lily wrinkled her nose. "That's gross!"
"Not in magical gardens," Zed said. "Spinach gives power to the earth. It's the vegetable of courage."
Lily's mother had just bought fresh spinach from the farmer's market. Together, Lily, Barnaby, and Zed planted spinach seeds in the moonlit garden. As they worked, Zed told stories about the olden days, when zombies weren't scary monsters but garden guardians who helped plants grow.
By dawn, bright green spinach leaves had sprouted. And wherever they grew, other plants perked up. Roses bloomed. Sunflowers stretched tall. The garden buzzed with life.
Zed's skin turned from gray to a healthy pink. "You saved me," he said, smiling. "And you learned something important."
"What?" Lily asked.
"Things that seem scary or gross—like zombies or spinach—might be wonderful if you give them a chance."
Lily looked at the spinach. She actually wanted to try it now.
Barnaby barked happily, and Zed handed Lily a magical spinach leaf. "Take this. Whenever you need courage, remember: brave people plant seeds, even when they're afraid."
That night, Lily ate spinach for dinner—and loved it. And sometimes, when she looks at her iPhone, she still sees the Garden Rescue app, reminding her that magic is real, especially when you share it with friends (and dogs).
