The Zombie Who Loved Rainbows
Lily loved her grandmother's magical garden, especially after a rainstorm when the sun peeked through clouds. That's when rainbows danced over the sparkling puddles. One afternoon, she spotted something strange near the garden fence—a little green creature with wild flowers growing from its head.
"Are you a zombie?" Lily asked, remembering the spooky stories her older brother told.
The creature shook its head sadly. "Everyone calls me that because I look different. But I'm not scary at all. My name is Zola, and I just want a friend."
Lily noticed Zola's tummy rumbling like thunder. "Are you hungry?"
Zola nodded. "I haven't eaten in days. Nobody shares food with a zombie."
Lily rushed to the papaya tree and picked the ripest, sweetest papaya she could find. Then she grabbed a juicy orange from the basket on the porch. "Try these!" she said, handing Zola the fruit.
Zola took a tiny bite of papaya and her eyes widened like tiny moons. "It's wonderful!" She tried the orange next and did a happy dance, spinning until the flowers on her head sprinkled magical dust everywhere.
Suddenly, the garden began to glow. The water in the birdbath shimmered like liquid diamonds. "You have the gift of kindness," Zola said. "Your heart has turned my curse into magic."
From that day on, Zola helped Lily's garden grow. Flowers bloomed bigger and brighter. Vegetables grew overnight. And whenever it rained, Zola would dance in the puddles, making rainbows appear even without sunshine.
Lily learned that sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to see past their appearance. And Zola learned that papayas and oranges taste much better when shared with a true friend.
Now whenever someone asks about the zombie in the garden, Lily just smiles and says, "That's not a zombie. That's my best friend, Zola—and she makes the best rainbows in the whole world."
