The Zombie Who Loved Papayas

Lila lived on an island where coconut **palm** trees swayed like dancing ladies. Every morning, she climbed the highest tree to watch the sunrise paint the sky pink and orange.

One day, she spotted something strange moving near the old papaya grove. It was a **zombie**! But this zombie didn't look scary at all. His messy green **hair** stuck out like seaweed, and he shuffled slowly through the sand.

Lila hid behind a tree and watched. To her surprise, the zombie stopped at a papaya tree. He reached up with gentle hands and picked the ripest fruit, then sat down and ate it with the biggest smile she had ever seen.

"Hello?" Lila called out, stepping from her hiding spot.

The zombie jumped! "Oh! You startled me! I'm Zummy."

"You can talk?" Lila's eyes went wide. "I thought zombies were scary!"

Zummy laughed, and it sounded like ocean bubbles. "Not me! I'm under a magic spell. The only way to break it is to make a true friend and share papayas together."

Just then, a magnificent golden **bull** appeared from the jungle. It was the island's guardian, sent by the ancient spirits to test Zummy's heart.

"This creature must prove himself worthy," the bull spoke in a deep, kind voice. "Will you use your magic to help others, or only to help yourself?"

Zummy thought carefully. "I would use it to help Lila's garden grow. I've seen how hard she works, but the soil is too dry."

The bull nodded approvingly. Zummy reached out his hand, and green magic sparkled from his fingers. Where he touched the ground, beautiful flowers burst forth, and papaya trees sprouted instantly.

"The spell is broken!" the bull announced. "Your heart was true all along."

Zummy's green hair became soft and brown, and his zombie gray skin turned warm and golden. He wasn't a zombie anymore — he was a real boy!

"Will you stay and be my friend?" Lila asked.

"Forever," Zummy promised. "And we'll always have papayas."

Every day after that, they climbed palm trees together, sharing fruit and friendship. The guardian bull watched from the jungle, happy that kindness had worked its magic once again.

And somewhere on that magical island, if you listen closely, you can still hear two friends laughing in the trees.
