The Zombie Who Loved Papayas

Lily pushed her wild curly hair out of her face and peered into the shimmering water of the old swimming pool behind her grandmother's house. The pool had been empty for years, but today - magically - it was filled with the most beautiful blue water she had ever seen.

"Don't go too close!" called her grandmother, handing her a fresh papaya from the garden. "This place has secrets."

But Lily was too curious. She sat at the pool's edge, her bare feet dangling in the cool water. Suddenly, something emerged from the depths - a green, bumpy creature with messy hair made of seaweed and twigs.

Lily gasped. "A zombie!"

"No, no," said the creature, shaking its head. "I'm Zomby. I'm not scary at all. I just nap underwater because it's so peaceful."

Zomby looked at the papaya in Lily's hand with big, friendly eyes. "Is that... papaya?"

Lily nodded and broke the fruit in half. "Want some?"

Zomby's face lit up as she took the piece. "Oh, this is wonderful! I've watched children swim here for years, but none ever offered me fruit."

"Why were you hiding?" Lily asked.

"Everyone runs away when they see me," Zomby said sadly. "They think I'm scary. But I just want friends."

Lily smiled. "Well, I'm not scared of a zombie who loves papayas and naps in pools."

Every day that summer, Lily brought Zomby papayas from grandmother's garden. They swam together, played games, and told stories. The other children eventually met Zomby too, and they learned that things that seem scary at first might just be lonely friends waiting for someone to say hello.

And sometimes, the best adventures start with being brave enough to share your papaya.
