The Zombie Who Loved Papayas

Lily loved swimming in the blue ocean near her grandmother's house. Every morning, she would dive into the sparkling water, pretending she was a mermaid exploring an underwater kingdom.

One day, while swimming near a secret cove, Lily saw something strange. A green figure stood near the papaya trees on the beach. It moved slowly, with arms stretched out, making soft groaning sounds.

Lily popped her head above water. "Hello?"

The figure froze. It was a zombie! But not a scary one like in movies. This zombie looked sad and confused. His name was Zed, and he had been wandering for weeks, searching for something he couldn't remember.

"Are you going to eat brains?" Lily asked, staying in the water just in case.

Zed shook his head slowly. "No brains. Just... hungry for something sweet and sunny."

Lily swam to shore and picked a ripe papaya from her grandmother's tree. She held it out to Zed. "Try this. Papayas are the sweetest fruit in the whole world."

Zed took the papaya gently. His eyes lit up as he took a bite. Juice dribbled down his chin. "So orange! So happy!" he said, his voice sounding less groany.

That day began a wonderful friendship. Zed wasn't scary at all—he was just lonely. Every day, Lily would bring papayas to the beach, and Zed would teach her the best swimming spots. He was actually an excellent swimmer once he relaxed!

Other children came to meet Zed too. Soon, the zombie who loved papayas wasn't lonely anymore. He had friends who swam with him, shared papayas, and showed him that being different didn't mean being scary.

Sometimes the best friends come in the most surprising packages. And sometimes, all a zombie needs is a little kindness and a really good papaya.
