The Zombie Who Loved Papayas
Lily's grandmother's garden grew the sweetest papayas in the valley. Every summer, Lily helped harvest the golden-orange fruits that smelled like sunshine itself.
But this summer felt different. Papayas were disappearing overnight!
One moonlit night, Lily hid behind the mango tree, watching. Suddenly, a slow-moving figure shuffled into the garden. A zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary at all. He wore tattered tennis clothes and carried a dusty racquet.
"Excuse me," Lily whispered, stepping forward. "Are you eating our papayas?"
The zombie stopped. His greenish face crinkled into a gentle smile. "Yes, please. They give me magic energy. I haven't been fast in years."
"I'm Lily," she said bravely. "What's your name?"
"Sam. I was the padel champion of Mango Village before a witch's curse made me slow and sleepy forever."
Lily's eyes widened. She'd just started learning padel! "Could you teach me?"
Sam's eyes lit up. "Yes! But first, papayas give me magic."
Lily gave him the ripest papaya. Sam ate it in two bites—and suddenly zoomed around the garden!
"Tomorrow!" Sam promised. "We'll play padel on your grandmother's court!"
All summer, they played. Sam was patient and kind. Lily became amazing at padel, but more importantly, she found a wonderful friend.
One day, the witch appeared. "You broke my curse," she huffed. "True friendship is stronger than any spell."
Sam returned to normal—no longer a zombie, still Lily's best friend.
They still play padel every weekend, and after every match, they share the sweetest papaya from the tree that grew something more magical than fruit: friendship that saved them both.
MORAL: Never judge by appearances. The strangest encounters can become the most wonderful friendships.
