The Zombie Who Loved Papayas
Lily and her best friend Toby loved exploring the old jungle behind their houses. One afternoon, while running through the tall grass, they discovered something strange—a thick black cable stretching from the ground all the way up into the clouds.
"I bet it's a space elevator!" Toby whispered, eyes wide.
Lily giggled. "Or maybe it holds up the moon!"
But when they touched the cable, something magical happened. It began to glow, and suddenly they were whisked up, up, up into a secret garden floating in the sky!
The garden was filled with the most beautiful papaya trees—hundreds of them, with golden fruits that sparkled like tiny stars. In the middle of the garden stood a creature the children had only seen in scary stories: a zombie.
But this zombie wasn't scary at all. He wore a colorful flower necklace and was carefully watering a baby papaya tree with a sparkling silver watering can.
"Hello!" the zombie called out in a friendly voice. "I'm Zephyr, guardian of the Papaya Palace!"
Lily and Toby were surprised. "But... you're a zombie. Aren't zombies supposed to be scary?"
Zephyr laughed, a sound like wind chimes. "That's just a story people tell. I've been taking care of these magical papayas for three hundred years. Each fruit grants one wish to a pure-hearted child."
He handed them each a ripe, glowing papaya. "But remember—the best wishes are the ones that help others."
Lily closed her eyes and wished. "I wish that everyone in my village could taste how wonderful papayas are!"
Toby wished too. "I wish I could visit Zephyr's garden whenever I want, so we can be friends forever!"
The papayas glowed brighter, and suddenly the cable below them began to shimmer. It now stretched all the way to their village, and baskets of golden papayas appeared floating gently down to every home.
"Thank you, Zephyr!" the children called as they slid down the magical cable, running home with hearts full of joy.
From that day on, Lily and Toby learned an important lesson: never judge someone by their appearance, because the best friends sometimes come in the most unexpected packages. And every full moon, they would climb the glowing cable to visit their zombie friend, sharing stories and papayas in their garden in the clouds.
