The Zombie Who Loved Papaya
In a garden where moonflowers glowed like tiny lanterns, there lived a zombie named Zeb. But Zeb wasn't scary at all. He was green and fuzzy, with one crooked tooth and a smile like a crescent moon. Every night, Zeb would shuffle through the garden, humming little tunes to the sleeping plants.
Zeb's favorite spot was the papaya tree. Its leaves shimmered with silver dew, and golden fruit hung like stars caught in branches. Zeb loved papaya more than anything—not to eat, but to polish! Every night, he carefully rubbed each papaya with a soft cloth until it gleamed.
"You're the guardian of the papayas," Mrs. Lopez would say with a warm smile. She was the kind grandmother who had planted the garden years ago. She understood that magic came in all shapes, even zombie-shaped ones.
One evening, Zeb discovered something terrible. The papaya tree drooped sadly. Its leaves turned gray, and the golden fruits looked dull and tired. A padel court had been built right next to the garden! Every day, children played padel, laughing and hitting balls against the wall. But the noise and the balls flying into the garden were hurting the magical tree.
Zeb's heart sank. He loved the children's happiness, but he loved his papaya tree too. What could he do?
That night, Zeb had an idea. He gathered all the fallen padel balls—there were hundreds of them! With careful zombie hands, he painted each ball with glowing moon-paint from the moonflowers. Then he placed them around the papaya tree like magical guardians.
The next morning, something amazing happened. When padel balls flew toward the garden, Zeb's glowing balls gently bounced them back! The children cheered—it was like the garden was playing along! And the papaya tree began to perk up, sensing it was safe.
Mrs. Lopez saw Zeb's clever solution and patted his fuzzy shoulder. "You found a way to share the garden," she said. "That's the best kind of magic."
That night, Zeb polished his papayas with extra care. The tree glowed golden again, and beyond the fence, the children's laughter floated through the air like music. Zeb smiled his crooked smile, knowing that with a little creativity, everyone could play together happily ever after.
